Singer-songwriter Kalsey Kulyk returns with a heartfelt new release, pairing her original track “Western Wind” with a tender cover of The Judds’ “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout The Good Old Days).” Released via Universal Music Canada, the two-pack bridges personal expression and country tradition.
“Western Wind” highlights Kulyk’s lyrical introspection, telling the story of emotional self-preservation. “Western Wind was a song that I started myself and had to walk away from because I wanted to give it my all,” says Kulyk. “So a month later I was in Nashville in the writers room with Patricia Conroy and Dave Thomson and I threw this song out there and they loved it.”
Paired with the new single is her version of “Grandpa,” a song tied closely to her childhood memories. “Grandpa was a song I used to sing all the time as a little girl,” she remembers. “Every time I hear this song or it pops in my head it feels like a warm blanket reminding me of my childhood.”
Her past covers of “Cowboy Take Me Away” and “I May Hate Myself In The Morning” reflect a continued reverence for country’s classic era while showcasing her vocal strength.
This year, Kulyk joins Wynonna Judd as an opening act at the Energetic County Fair. Known for her expressive voice and narrative depth, the Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan native is becoming a defining voice in Canadian country music.
