Samantha Fish, the Kansas City native and current New Orleans powerhouse, has released her latest album Paper Doll via Rounder Records. Hailed by Rolling Stone as “a genuine force of sonic prowess,” Fish cements her reputation with a collection of songs that fuse rock, soul, and unflinching emotional power.
Produced by Detroit garage rock luminary Bobby Harlow (The Go), Paper Doll reveals Fish at her boldest yet. To celebrate the release, she will perform “Lose You” on her national TV debut on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Of the scorching track, which features “sizzling slide escapades” (Premier Guitar), Fish says: “It’s my way of saying, ‘I’m on fire and you’re not, so what are you gonna do about it?’”
Paper Doll’s nine tracks deliver gut-punching intensity and heartfelt insight, with Fish “stretching idiomatic boundaries” (Nashville Scene) to push her sound forward. The album’s title reflects her personal journey toward defiance: “It’s about rebelling against other people’s expectations of who you’re supposed to be.”
Tracked at The Orb in Austin and Savannah Studios in LA with her touring band, the record brims with the “road-worn chemistry and raw, electric charm” (Blues Rock Review) that defines her live shows.
After earning a Grammy nomination for Death Wish Blues and playing with legends like The Rolling Stones, Fish is now touring across North America, including JazzFest appearances this week and next.
