Mariah Carey has partnered with Vevo to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her timeless holiday anthem, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” In a special Footnotes episode, Carey and music video director Joseph Kahn reflect on the making of the “Make My Wish Come True Edition” video, offering fans an inside look at the creative process.

Kahn designed the video to pay homage to Busby Berkeley’s classic choreography and the glamour of Hollywood’s golden musicals. Carey recalls the challenges of adapting to the choreography, admitting that dancing is not her specialty. The centerpiece of the video—a stunning Busby Berkeley-inspired sequence—took hours to perfect, requiring multiple angles and repeated takes to achieve its visual brilliance.

The video is filled with festive cameos. Mykal-Michelle Harris, portraying a young Mariah, brought vibrant energy to the set, which Carey praised: “She represents little me and all the kids who love Christmas!” Carey’s twins, Monroe and Moroccan, dance joyfully throughout the video, and her dog, Cha Cha, adds a heartwarming touch, continuing the tradition of pet appearances. Director Joseph Kahn’s daughter, Josie, also makes a special appearance as a gift box angel.

With over 18 million copies of Merry Christmas sold and a record-breaking 14 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” remains one of the most iconic holiday songs ever.
