Every great cover story has an origin myth, and ‘Prized Possession’ sounds like one being written in real time. CATTY, the Welsh glam pop firestarter with one of UK pop’s most singular voices, unveils a new single that burns with jealousy and devotion, then drapes it in gothic theatre. The result is a feverish, all or nothing declaration that feels both timeless and thrillingly now.

The architecture of the track is grand. Drums pound like footsteps in a vaulted hall, guitars crunch with delicious bite, warped synths blur the edges into a dream, and vocal stacks build a cinematic choir. Within that architecture, CATTY delivers a venomous, full throttle pop statement that asks for love at full strength. Her words are diamond bright, “Give me your jealousy, Kiss, kill and come for me, Do it for the thrill…, But I don’t want a temporary love or a lie, I want someone by my side until I die.”

She frames the creative heart of the song with candid charm. “I think it’s fair to say I have a flair for the dramatic because ‘Prized Possession’ is basically me saying if you’re in love with me, kill the rest (metaphorically, of course.) I love with every fibre of my being, oftentimes to my detriment but ‘Prized Possession’ is definitely me saying please love me with everything you have in return.”

The writing sprint took place over a week with Nathan and Juliette, a white wine fueled collaboration that captured heartbreak and obsession through a baroque lens. It feels ripped from a gothic fairytale, blood stained and blazingly sincere, a story where Welsh mythology hums beneath the floorboards and a history of crushes leaves glittering claw marks on the chorus. At its core, ‘Prized Possession’ is a queer torch song with claws, soft in spirit yet fearless in stance. It is the perfect spotlight for CATTY’s voice, a powerful reminder that pop is at its best when it tells the truth and asks for everything.
