The inspiration for the switch is rooted in the moment, as fellow artists have leaned into tropical music. Jay Wheeler took that cue and crafted a song about heartbreak and the hope that the person you imagined forever with will remain in your life. The blueprint arrived during a home studio session, when he heard a bachata produced by Yeziell and co written by Puerto Rican songwriter Vasave. He then refined the track with his own tone and timing, giving it an intimate mood and a melodic spine that fits the island feel he set out to capture.

“I wanted to do something tropical and different, to challenge myself with a style I hadn’t tried before. I had done salsa once, but I felt I still needed to do bachata. I never imagined it would turn out so special—honestly, it’s one of my favorite songs,” said Jay Wheeler.

The release lands as Jay Wheeler expands the narrative around ‘Girasoles’. The companion documentary ‘Girasoles: Desde La Raíz’, directed by Enrique (Emma) González and produced by Dynamic Records, traces the personal and creative context of that album, presenting how each piece came to life.
