Lexa Gates captures the nuance of emotional anticipation in her new single “Latency,” a Capitol Records release created with Grammy winner Jasper Harris and Aaron Shadrow. The track drapes her confident yet vulnerable vocals over a sample of Hamilton Bohannon’s “Tell Me You’ll Wait.”
Balancing personal narrative and sensual production, Lexa sings, “I got ideas of you, making moves on me, what’s with the latency?”—a lyric that distills the song’s emotional pulse. The artist describes the track as “a sexy fantasy of a love left on delay. Waiting for a text back, or a move to be made.” She adds, “I got in the studio late night with the GOATS. From New York to LA. Being around all these rich older men sparked a curiosity in me. It’s a tale as old as time.”
Ganna Bodgan directs the video, offering a surreal look at Lexa’s internal monologue as she drifts through a loop of imagined desires. The large bag she carries serves as a symbolic load—emotional baggage and expectation—that she lugs from one dreamy scene to another.
Lexa’s recent Elite Vessel installation in New York added another layer to her reputation. Spending 10 hours in a glass box in public view, she created a visceral connection with audiences. That moment has earned over 300 million views and solidified her place as an artist unafraid to blur lines between music, performance, and visual art.
