Eora/Sydney trio Behind You mark their return with the release of their latest single “Cell,” a driving, distorted track steeped in psychological tension and self-reflection. The song is a condensed blast of alt-hip hop, digital noise, and punk subversion, proving why Behind You remain one of the country’s most forward-thinking underground bands.
Lyrically, “Cell” is direct and unforgettable:
“How do you even communicate with yourself? Is dealing with the inner critic a process of eliminating them, or befriending them? Stargaze all the puddles in the cave, pull my muzzle on my face, never say whatever I said…”
Its accompanying music video—filmed in Los Angeles and Las Vegas by Gabriel Gasparinatos with frontman Harry Welsh—presents a surreal battle between two sides of the same psyche. Shot entirely on iPhone, it captures the eerie, cinematic undertone of the track with scenes from the Venetian casino to a slime-green Mustang on Mulholland Drive.
Since forming in 2017, Behind You—Frank Fisher, Joe Goddard, and Dylan Clay—have cultivated a reputation as a must-see live act, bringing their primal, chaotic energy to stages at BIGSOUND, SXSW Sydney, and beyond.
With praise from Rolling Stone, ABC Arts, Resident Advisor, and triple j, and collaborations with artists like Rako, Teether, and Marcus Whale, Behind You continue to champion subculture and push the limits of sound and performance.
