Lindsay Ell returns with a deeply personal new single, “i shouldn’t call you”, featuring Nightly, released via Universal Music Canada. The track, co-written by Ell and Nightly, and co-produced by Ell and Doug Schadt, reflects on the journey from heartache to healing.

Beginning with hauntingly sparse production, the song slowly builds, incorporating pulsing percussion and a bold guitar solo, mirroring the emotional transition from pain to realization. Speaking on its meaning, Lindsay shares:

“‘i shouldn’t call you’ is the perfect follow-up to love myself, because when you start to love yourself, you can see what you are worthy of and the things that don’t fit become clearer. I wrote this song to be the soundtrack for the honest struggle of coming to terms with realizing someone doesn’t fit in your life anymore.” – Lindsay Ell

Widely recognized for her songwriting and musicianship, Ell discussed her evolving sound with American Songwriter, stating, “I really believe that music is supposed to feel like this healing process when you write it and listen to it.”

Fresh off a New Year’s Eve performance alongside Shania Twain, Ell continues her role as the lead guitarist for Twain’s “Come On Over” Las Vegas residency and tour, with her own full-length album expected later in 2025. With “i shouldn’t call you,” Lindsay Ell reaffirms her place as one of music’s most compelling voices.
